When we first met the staff at
St Andrew’s there were five areas of the gardens
they wanted to improve. After discussions and site
visits it was agreed we would tackle the three which
directly benefit the children and their families.
The Children’s garden as it stood lacked colour,
life and water and plans were drawn up to rectify this.
The memorial garden area was enhanced by a small running
stream and overall the gardens were greatly improved
with the provision of outdoor lighting.
Our contractors were Alan Browne (landscaping) and
Garry White (electrical). Suppliers who donated free
materials were Bradstone (paving), Oase (pumps and
filters), GET and Greenbrook (electrical supplies).
Together all have helped to create the new atmosphere
garden that was opened on Wednesday 21st January 2004
by writer and broadcaster Daphne Ledward.
The opening was attended by a wide variety of people
and prominent amongst them were the volunteer gardeners
who, of course, are the key to its long-term success.
The Greenfingers Appeal has also been able to secure
a supply of hand tools for their use from Spear & Jackson.
