Julia’s House in Poole is the only Children’s Hospice in Dorset. It has been built within the structure of a large, old house, set into existing gardens and grounds. The Greenfingers garden project on this site was essentially one of creating new landscape elements in various areas, and incorporating aspects that are already present.
The designer proposed the installation of a raised timber walkway through an existing rhododendron and birch glade, leading to a sunburst display of low walled gravel and grass ‘rays’. A tranquil garden area, water feature and lawns have also been introduced.
The seaside theme that is evident throughout Julia’s House has been reflected in the new garden plans through colour and shape, with pathways featuring moulded sea ‘fossils’ – the first formally laid by the Earl of Wessex in May 2006.
The exciting design was by Amanda Patton and construction undertaken by landscape contractor Encompass.
