Although
not a member of the Association of Children’s
Hospices, this one had a special appeal. They wanted
to create a sensory garden and one of our supporters,
Alan Titchmarsh, had promised a few years ago to do
some designs for them.
Alan
is always busy and hadn’t got round to it so the
Greenfingers Appeal was pleased to step in and organise
some designs. The site was mainly grass so it was decided
to take a part of this and create a sensory garden.
At the same time, the bank on the road was covered in
weedy growth so it was agreed that we should refurbish
that too.
The design was by DCR Landscapes
who also undertook the landscaping. A variety of plants
were used to give visual, colour and smell sensations
including geraniums, lemon thyme, bergenia, honeysuckle,
lavender, rosemary, sage, clematis and sambuccus.
Donations, or discount for materials
were received from:
- Chalcon Hard Landscaping, for
paving
- Notcutts for Rosa ‘Kent’
- Norfolk Lavender for lavender.
- A significant contribution to
this garden came from Capital Shopping.
The Sensory Garden was opened in
September 2002. |
