The Hospice in the Fylde – called Trinity – is an adult Hospice that also caters for children, in the suburbs of Blackpool. A new wing, called Brian House, has been developed primarily for children. Between the two buildings is an area known as the children’s
garden, albeit when Greenfingers became involved still a building
site.
We invited two design/landscape companies to look at the site, after the landscape architect for the main developer had come up with her design. This was discussed and agreed with the Hospice as meeting their requirements. Novel ideas included a willow tunnel and a chamomile lawn, alongside important features such as the tranquil area, where a family can sit in peace, and both covered and open play areas.
Gemma Newman, the landscape architect who has designed the site, is young and comes from a background in large scale commercial landscaping. She was very keen to ‘have a go’ at this one, and produced an excellent scheme that we were pleased to use. Following receipt of contractors quotations, local company Barton Grange Landscapes built the garden.
Rolawn generously supplied the turf and Marshalls the paving which meant our money went even further.
